    The village

Harrold is recorded in the Domesday Book of 1086, and the Church of St Peter stands in the village. An ancient bridge crosses the river to Carlton on the south bank, and the green, with the Buttermarket and the old lock up close by, is the centre of village life, hosting the Harrold Pit Run each April. Between Harrold and Odell, former gravel pits became Harrold Odell Country Park, with lakes, river meadows and walks. The village has two pubs, The Muntjac and the Oakley Arms.

    Homes and prices

Harrold offers period houses and cottages around the High Street and the green, alongside family homes built through the twentieth century and later. Detached homes sold for an average of around £650,000 over the year to May 2026, and the average across all homes was around £378,000, below the year before. Terraced homes made up most of the sales in the period, which pulls the overall figure down, so the best homes here are valued against the closest comparable sales rather than the village average.

    Getting about

Bedford is around nine miles south east, with trains from Bedford station to London St Pancras taking from around 40 minutes. Sharnbrook and the A6 are a short drive east, and Olney is a short drive away.

    Schools

Harrold Primary Academy, on the green, takes children from four to eleven. Older pupils attend schools in the surrounding area, and Bedford's independent schools, including Bedford School, Bedford Girls' School, Bedford Modern School and Pilgrims' School, are within reach. We always suggest checking current admissions arrangements with Bedford Borough Council for a specific address.
