The village
Houghton Conquest takes its name from the Conquest family, who held the manor from the thirteenth to the eighteenth century. The Church of All Saints dates from the fourteenth century and is the largest parish church in Bedfordshire. Houghton House, built around 1615 and now a ruin in the care of English Heritage, stands on the ridge between the village and Ampthill.
Homes and prices
The village offers period cottages and farmhouses, established family homes and a growing number of individually built houses, including some built to the highest energy standards. Detached homes sold for an average of around £456,000 over the year to July 2026, and the average across all homes was around £381,000. The village average fell on the year before, largely because fewer of its larger homes sold, which is why we value each home against its closest comparable sales.
