The village
St Peter's Church was first mentioned in 1205, as a chapel to Felmersham; its tower and spire were added in the fourteenth century. Beside the church, the Old Yew Tree is believed to have been planted in 1665. The village pub, the Cock, stands on the High Street, and Pavenham Park Golf Club is close by. Along the river, Stevington Marsh is a Site of Special Scientific Interest, and Pavenham Osier Beds is managed by the Wildlife Trust for Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Northamptonshire.
Homes and prices
Homes in Pavenham are mostly period houses and cottages along the High Street and Mill Lane, with a number of later family homes in the village's closes. So few sell each year that a village average would move wildly and mean little. Prices are set by the individual house, its setting and its relationship to the river, and the best homes here are valued against the wider north Bedfordshire market.
Getting about
Bedford is around six miles south east, with trains from Bedford station to London St Pancras taking from around 40 minutes. The A6 is a short drive east.
Schools
Pavenham's own village school closed in 1983, and families use the schools in the surrounding villages and in Bedford, including Bedford's independent schools. We always suggest checking current admissions arrangements with Bedford Borough Council for a specific address.
