    The village

Sharnbrook is recorded in the Domesday Book, and the Norman Church of St Peter is its oldest surviving building. The High Street is lined with houses of local limestone, and the village keeps its old mill and police station among its landmarks. Colworth House, rebuilt in its present form by 1774, stands in parkland on the edge of the village.

Red kites are a common sight over the fields, and the river, the Ouse valley and the countryside towards Odell and Harrold are close at hand. The village has around 2,300 residents and a strong community life.

    Homes and prices

Sharnbrook offers stone cottages and period houses in the old village, family homes built over the last century, and converted barns and country homes in the surrounding countryside. Detached homes sold for an average of around £511,000 over the year to July 2026, and the average across all homes was around £445,000, a little below the year before.

Many homes here are owned for decades. We recently sold a home on Lodge Close that came to the market for the first time in 62 years, and long ownership means good homes appear rarely and are keenly watched.

    Getting about

Bedford station, around seven miles south, has trains to London St Pancras taking from around 40 minutes. The A6 runs close to the village, linking it to Bedford and to Rushden and the A14 to the north.

    Schools

Sharnbrook has its own primary school and is home to Sharnbrook Academy, which draws pupils from across north Bedfordshire. Bedford's independent schools are a short drive south. We always suggest checking current admissions arrangements with Bedford Borough Council for a specific address.
