The village
The Church of All Saints has parts dating from the fourteenth and fifteenth centuries, with a tower clock added in 1898 to mark Queen Victoria's Diamond Jubilee. Around it, the village keeps a number of thatched cottages and listed buildings alongside later homes. Wilstead has two pubs, a post office and shop, a pharmacy and a modern village hall.
Homes and prices
Wilstead offers period cottages, family homes built through the twentieth century and newer houses. Detached homes sold for an average of around £520,000 over the year to July 2026, and the average across all homes was around £437,000. That was around 12% below the year before but in line with the 2021 peak, a reminder that a village average moves with the mix of homes sold, which is why we value each home against its closest comparable sales.
Getting about
The A6 runs past the village, linking Wilstead to Bedford in the north and Luton in the south. Bedford station has trains to London St Pancras taking from around 40 minutes, and Flitwick station has Thameslink services to the City.
Schools
Wilstead has its own primary school, Wilstead Primary School on Cotton End Road, and families are within reach of Bedford's state and independent schools. We always suggest checking current admissions arrangements with Bedford Borough Council for a specific address.
